Chemical Peels

Sea Glass Med Spa chemical peel

Don’t let the term “chemical peel” scare you.

We’re not talking about a snake shedding its skin or Samantha the day of Carrie’s book launch from “Sex and the City.” Peels have come a long way since then! Modern peels be used the day of a special event for a pre-event glow, or in a series of peels for a more progressive approach to rejuvenation OR as a part of our trademarked 1228 protocol.

Our skin naturally exfoliates every 30 days until our 30s when it slows down. This is the reason that there is a day in our 30s when we wake up and notice our skin looks dull, blotchy, and our lines are starting to show. This is an indicator to start chemical exfoliation to get you back on that monthly schedule. Monthly chemical peels will literally melt the years away.

Our Preferred Peel

We exclusively use Physician’s Care Alliance (PCA) brand peels, specifically the Sensi-Peel. While other skincare lines may burn or blister the skin, PCA skin peels use natural ingredients like lactic acid and citric acid, coupled with botanicals to help feed, lighten, and brighten your complexion with ZERO downtime.

If you are someone who is hesitant to try any medical aesthetics procedures (Hi, Mom! 😁), peels are a great place to start. Get ready for less brown spots, refined pores, tighter, brighter and firmer skin! Regular treatments will transform your skin back to the more youthful version of YOU.

Chemical exfoliation is a safe and effective way to rapidly exfoliate your skin to reveal healthy, glowing skin and encourage new collagen and a smoother, brighter complexion.

Collagen Injection Therapy with Microneedling

Collagen Induction Therapy from Sea Glass Med Spa

To understand the basis of this treatment, you need to first understand how instrumental collagen and elastin are to the health and appearance of your skin.

Collagen is a protein which is necessary for keeping skin, bones, and muscles healthy. Without ample supply, skin becomes dry, wrinkly, and tired looking.

Elastin is another protein which is a pliable connective tissue makes up one of the outermost layers of the skin called the dermis. Elastin allows the skin to “snap back into place” after the contracting and stretching which occur on a day-to-day basis.

A micro-needling treatment is performed with an electric utensil with a disposable tip containing small needles which move up and down to various depths. Different depths are used on different areas of the face to achieve optimal results. We apply topical numbing cream to assure clients have the best experience, plus there’s no downtime for recovery - perfect for a lunchtime refresh.

Not all needling devices are created equal.

We use the SkinPen by Bellus Medical, a true state-of-the-art anti-aging device that repairs and improves sun damage, scars, stretch marks and hyperpigmentation. Because it has 12 surgical grade microneedles that simultaneously develop tiny microchannels in the skin, SkinPen increases collagen and skin cell turnover. The overall result is an appearance of more youthful skin, plus a decrease in fine lines and acne scarring.

SkinPen differs from generic micro-needling because its patented needle technology does not drag the skin - which can be why certain micro-needling procedures are associated with a longer recovery. Basic micro-needling is a fantastic procedure but usually only treats one depth of the layers of the skin. With the 1228 protocol, we utilize needles that penetrate three layers of skin, providing even better results.

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) injections

Platelet Rich Fibrin from Sea Glass Med Spa

A completely natural alternative to chemical fillers, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) uses your body’s own blood components to rejuvenate areas prone to early aging visibility. PRF is harvested using a slow-speed centrifuge, retaining more stem cells, fibrin, and white blood cells than PRP.

PRF injections release growth factors more slowly than PRP, resulting in a longer-lasting effect.

When describing PRF, I almost always hear two questions:

  1. Is that the same as PRP (platelet rich plasma)? (hint: no)

  2. Is that the bloody facial we saw Kim Kardashian get on Instagram? (hint: also no)

PRF is a by-product of blood that is exceptionally rich in platelets, and these platelets release growth factors that stimulate stem cells. These autologous stem cells are an aesthetic powerhouse which provide treatment options for multiple conditions.

So how does PRF work?

We do a routine blood draw, and the blood that is drawn is placed in a centrifuge, and once spun the PRF can be drawn off the top and used in three different ways:

  1. Dermaroller – it will be gently rolled over the skin with the use of an apparatus with short acupuncture-sized needles which are rolled over portions of the skin to gently to infuse the PRF to the upper layers of the skin (this would be the least invasive route)

  2. SkinPen Microneedling - This is used along with hyaluronic acid as a glide for the micro-needling treatment, which allows the PRF to be absorbed into the skin down to the deeper layers of the dermis, making the stem cells more effective

  3. PRF as filler – This technique involves deeper injections of PRF utilizing cannulas to provide the deepest (albeit minimally invasive) procedure and action. This includes using PRF as lip filler, tear trough filler, and other areas such as marionette lines and nasolabial folds. While still holding some risks, it is much safer than hyaluronic dermal fillers as it is not associated with vascular occlusion which is one of the more serious complications associated with dermal fillers.

 Now back to those questions…

  1. No. While also a byproduct of the blood that is exceptionally rich in platelets, PRP does not have as many white blood cells, does not contain a fibrin sheath, and most importantly does not have or produce stem cells.

  2. Kim’s famous (and gruesome) facial is microneedling utilizing PRP, also known as the Vampire facial.
